As the grandson of a casket maker, our founder, the late Gene S. Hutchens, was a part of funeral service since birth. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, Gene taught at the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and the American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City before establishing his own funeral home. In 1955, Gene and Rosemarie, his wife, founded the Florissant Mortuary in Old Town Florissant, MO. Ten years later in 1965, he built the current Hutchens Mortuary facility located at 675 Graham Road in Florissant. Rosemarie Hutchens, now in her nineties, still resides at the family's long-time residence in the heart of Florissant. Rosemarie is the proud mother of five, grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 14 and counting. She enjoys attending her church and spending time with her family.
John is the son of Gene and Rosemarie Hutchens and second generation funeral director. He was born and raised in Florissant, MO where he still lives today. A 1974 graduate of CBC High School in St. Louis, John received his undergraduate degree from UMSL before obtaining his funeral director's license and joining the family business where he has served for over 40 years. John has four children and five grandchildren who all reside in the St. Louis area. In his spare time, John enjoys adventures like scuba diving, skiing and rock climbing and the challenges of playing piano, saxophone, drums and learning new languages.
Mark is the son of John S. Hutchens, grandson of Rosemarie and the late Gene S. Hutchens, and third generation funeral director. Born and raised in Florissant, MO, Mark is a graduate of CBC High School in St. Louis and earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia College. He currently lives in O'Fallon, MO with his wife, Rhiannon, and their two daughters, Harper and Winnie. Mark spends most of his time at the Hutchens-Stygar location on Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in St. Charles, but routinely serves families in Florissant at Hutchens Mortuary and the Stygar Florissant Chapel. Mark finds great fulfillment in serving families in one of their greatest times of need. In his spare time, Mark enjoys playing golf, the camaraderie with his friends, spending time in his community, and spending quality time with his family.
Nancy is the eldest child of Gene and Rosemarie Hutchens. She has worked in the family business for over 30 years as the prearrangement manager. Nancy lives in Florissant, MO and has two children and three grandchildren. She is honored to help families in setting up their end of life wishes through preplanning and finds great joy in the relationships she's built over the years with the people of her community. While not working, Nancy enjoys her time with her kids and grandkids, gardening, traveling, and spoiling her pugs.
Brad joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2015 and has been a funeral director since 1993. He was born and raised in Florissant, MO. He and his wife, Gina (also a Florissant native), live in Wentzville with their 2 children and 2 dogs. Brad enjoys reading and taking trips with his family. He loves Cardinals baseball and Blues Hockey. Brad feels blessed and honored to be able to assist families during their greatest time of need.
Steve graduated high school in June 1972 and was quickly drafted into the US Army in August 1972. He trained at Ft. Leonard Wood before being sent to Germany in January 1973 where he met his wife Christel in 1974. Steve’s daughters, Susan and Melanie, were both born in Germany. He was discharged from the US Army in April 1977 and move to Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO and joined the family firm at the John Stygar & Son Funeral Home at 9825 Halls Ferry Rd. In 1994, Steve was assigned as the manager of the Stygar Florissant Chapel where he still remains as manager today under the new Hutchens ownership. Steve is a past member and officer of the Florissant Valley Jacees and Florissant Rotary Club and current member and past President of the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce and current member of the Florissant Elks.
Greg began with the Stygar Family of Funeral Service in 1983, serving in many capacities within the company. Currently, Greg oversees the crematory as the Cremation Manager for Hutchens Funeral Homes. He is married to his wife of over 30 years, Anna (Keezle). He has four children: Jason and his wife Cortney, Amanda, Patrick, and Catherine and her husband Bobby and a proud grandfather of two. Greg also serves as Deacon and campus director at Have Bible Will Travel Church in Weldon Spring, MO. He considers it a privilege and honor to serve those in their time of need.
Laura started with Hutchens Funeral Homes in January of 1999. She lives in St. Peters and has one daughter and one grandson. She enjoys time spent with her family and her dog, Ross. Laura got into the funeral industry because it just felt ‘right’. She’s not always directly involved with families, but she’s happy to be a part of helping families get through the tough times during their loss.
After discharged from the U.S. Army, Larry attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and graduated in 1976. He started with Hutchens Mortuary in June, 1988 and retired from full time service in July, 2016 after 28 years of service as a funeral director and embalmer. Larry currently works part-time as a funeral director at all our locations. He is married to his wife, Carol, for over 40 years and has three children and three grandchildren.
Karen has worked at Hutchens Mortuary since 2002 as an associate. She is widowed with four children, a grandmother of nine, and a great grandmother of six.
Bill joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2004 after retiring from CBC High School where he was a match teacher for over 30 years. He and his wife live in Florissant, MO and are parishioners of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church. In his spare time, Bill enjoys traveling with his wife and playing golf with his friends. Bill has a son and a daughter, who is married with three children.
Barb has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 1995. She truly enjoys helping others during such a difficult time. Barb lives in St. Peters, MO and enjoys reading, shopping, and having lunch with her friends, but most of all, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
Tim has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 2011 after retiring from full-time work as an auto body technician. Tim lives in Chesterfield, MO and enjoys spending time with his family, working on cars, and going to the racetrack. He finds great fulfillment assisting families on the day of their funeral as a hearse driver, especially serving the veterans of our community.
Mary Anne is married to Lou Branca and together they have two sons and four grandchildren. Mary Anne began working as a greeter at our Hutchens Mortuary location in 2014 and currently works as a funeral assistant at our Hutchens-Stygar location on Mid Rivers Mall Dr.
Kimberly grew up in Putnam County, Missouri and started working in a funeral home during her senior year of high school. She became a licensed funeral director after graduating from Putnam County R-1 High School in Unionville, MO. She then went on to graduate with a degree in Mortuary Science from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, IL. Kimberly began with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2016, bringing 20+ years of experience and compassion. Kimberly works at our Hutchens-Stygar Funeral & Cremation Center in St. Charles as a funeral director. Kimberly lives in Troy, where she is a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Troy Elks Lodge #2805. Kim enjoys reading, planting flowers and spending time with her family.
Michele has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 2007. She proudly works as a funeral director and embalmer and resides in St. Louis, MO.
Kathy began as a greeter with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2013. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Bob, for over 50 years. Together they have been blessed with three children and nine grandchildren. She loves what she does and feels that her work as a greeter is a very rewarding position.
Paul is a full-time Research Scientist at Washington University in the Department of Ophthalmology, the part-time Music Director at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Florissant, MO, and an associate at Hutchens Mortuary since 2004, all while working on his funeral director’s licensure. He is married to his wife, Jackie, and has four children and two grandchildren.
Kristin was born and raised in St. Louis and graduated from St. Elizabeth's Academy in 2008. In 2014, she received her Associate's Degree from STLCC's Funeral Service and Education Program. Kristin received her Funeral Director's license in 2014 and her Embalmers license in 2016. She is a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoys rooting on her team at Busch Stadium. Kristin joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2016.
Kelly started with Hutchens Funeral Homes in August 2004. She was born and raised in Granite City, IL where she enjoys spending free time with her husband, basset hound Ava, and her family. She enjoys the outdoors by biking, fishing, hunting and kayaking. Kelly has been in the funeral industry since 1996 where she started as a greeter in her home town and then graduated from mortuary school from Forest Park in 1999.
Barb has worked at Hutchens Mortuary since 1997 as an associate. She is retired from Bunge North America, is married, has two daughters and two grandchildren.
Michael’s career choice and educational study was in the field of electronics. The US Army thought that he should be a cook, and trained him accordingly. Being one of the fortunate few to find a place to work and grow, he spent the next 44 years employed at a privately owned St. Louis based ‘umbrella corporation’. The diversity of this company’s holdings afforded Michael the opportunity to enjoy various fields and various levels of responsibility. Throughout his career, he has always enjoyed the professional relationships that developed and the eventual goal of any group of employees: providing a good service. Upon retirement, Michael realized even more how much he missed that interaction which led him to Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2010.
Sue began work with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2017. She is a retired Registered Nurse of 40 years, married with two children and three grandchildren.
Joseph is a resident of Florissant, MO with his wife Jaime and their three children. He is a parishioner of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Catholic Church, attended St. Sebastian grade school and is a 1989 graduate of McCluer Senior High School. Joseph became a licensed funeral director in 2003 and has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 2002. Joe currently works as a funeral director at our Stygar Florissant Chapel & Cremation Center, is a former President of the Sixth and Seventh Districts of the MFDEA, and a member of both the National and Missouri Funeral Directors Associations. He loves spending time with his family, is an avid sports fan, and enjoys Blues Hockey and Cardinal baseball games.
Mary Ellen has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 1996 as a funeral assistant. She lives in St. Charles, is married to Doug with two sons and two grandchildren. She enjoys baking and cooking, reading, coloring, road trips, and her time ushering at the Scheiddeger Center at Lindenwood University. She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoys helping families during their time of need.
Stan has been in the funeral business since 2006. He may be one of the first people you see when a family member passes away as his primary duty is transporting your loved one into our care, or driving the hearse on your loved one's funeral. He is married and lives in St. Charles with three children and three grandchildren and counting. Stan is retired from FedEx and spent several years in the limousine business prior to working with Hutchens Funeral Homes. In his spare time, he is an avid student of the stock market and loves watching old westerns and war movies.
Steve and his wife Linda reside in Florissant, MO. They have three children and two grandchildren. Steve began with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2015. Prior to his work with Hutchens, Steve worked at a major electrical distribution firm in St. Louis. He enjoys hobbies like fly-fishing and hunting and cheering on the Blues, Cardinals, Mizzou Tigers, and SLU Billikens. Steve is grateful to be a part of the Hutchens Funeral Homes family and finds great joy in assisting families through the loss of their loved one.
Steve joined Hutchens-Stygar in 2019, serving as a greeter at our Mid Rivers location. He and his wife live in Cottleville and have two sons. In addition to providing hospitality to Hutchens-Stygar families and their guests, Steve also runs his own freelance writing and communications company. His great-great-grandfather founded a funeral home in St. Louis in 1886 that operated for 80 years -- the August Brockland Livery & Undertaking Co. Steve sees it as a privilege to serve families in their time of need.
Theodore grew up in St. Charles County and graduated from Wentzville Holt High School. He received his Associates Degree in Mortuary Science from St. Louis Community College in 2013 and joined Hutchens-Stygar Mortuary in 2019. He resides in O’Fallon with his wife Jessica and two cats.
Ed is a St. Jerome's grade school graduate and CBC High School graduate of 1970. He enjoyed working for Duke Manufacturing until 1977 and then in the office products industry until 2017. Ed began with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2013 and currently serves as a greeter and associate.
Helen began with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2008 and currently works as a greeter. She loves the people she works with and enjoys meeting and greeting people who come through the doors and helping friends and families in their time of need.
Lucy joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in September 2015 as a Family Service Counselor where she helped families preplan their funeral services. She recently obtained her funeral director’s license and works as a funeral director and preneed family service counselor at our Hutchens-Stygar Funeral & Cremation Center location in St. Charles County. Lucy lives in Warrenton with her husband, Justin, and their two children. In her spare time, she enjoys helping with her son’s football team, watching her daughter play soccer and participate in cheerleading, and crocheting. When asked how she got into the funeral industry, Lucy will tell you that it found her, not the other way around. After experiencing several losses in her own family, she realized that she could use those experiences to help others.
Denise has been a funeral director with Hutchens Mortuary since 2007. She lives in O’Fallon, MO with her husband Terry and has a daughter, Brittany. Denise enjoys bowling, playing cards, entertaining friends at her home, sports events and is active with her church. She has always wanted to be a funeral director but didn’t pursue the field until 2007. She has experienced death in her own family, from losing a baby, brother, niece, mother at 17, and father. She took her experiences with loss and uses them to help the families she serves. She considers her work a ministry to help those hurting so deeply. She said that she’s often asked, “Do you ever get used to it, meeting with families and handling death?” Her reply has always been, “The day I begin getting used to it will be the day that I leave the field. I wouldn’t be doing my families any good.”
Tom joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2018 after his retirement from manufacturing, where he spent 35 years, and another 10 years with the federal government. Tom and his wife Patty have been married over 30 years and live in New Melle, MO, where they are members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Between them, they have 12 grandchildren, enjoy traveling, hiking and riding Tom’s Harley Davidson. Tom enjoys playing golf and hopes to play more now that he has retired. Tom enjoys his many roles with Hutchens Funeral Homes, specifically greeting and assisting families during their visitations and funerals. His compassion, kindness and professionalism aid families through this difficult time.
Sue has been a licensed funeral director serving families in the St. Louis area since 1990. She joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2006 and serves as the coordinator of our Life Changes widow and widower program.
Lori married in 1981, has four children and seven grandchildren. She was born and raised in North St. Louis County where she lives today. Before her career with Hutchens Funeral Homes, Lori worked for a brokerage firm in their accounting and financials department. When the firm sold, she worked part-time in a skilled nursing facility while waiting for the brokerage firm sale to complete. While working at the nursing home, Lori had the wonderful opportunity to care for Mrs. Rose Stygar. Mr. John Stygar asked Lori to come take care of Rose at their home after she was released from the skilled nursing. Lori and her two daughters provided 24 hour care for Rose at her home and also did the same for Mr. John Stygar when it was time for his care. The Stygars became like family to Lori and her family. After John Stygar passed away, John’s son Steve Stygar asked Lori to work at the funeral home as a business manager which is the position she holds today under Hutchens Funeral Homes. She says she is truly blessed to find another amazing family to work for, that their care and compassion shines through in every detail of the business.
Kim was born and raised in Smyrna, GA where she began her career before moving to St. Louis in 2002 when she married her husband, Ben. They have two children, Maci and Caden, and are both very involved in their kid’s sports activities. Kim proudly serves as a Children’s Pastor at Faith Chapel in O’Fallon, MO. She has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 2016 and considers her work as a funeral director a ministry, able to help families in the most difficult times of their lives.
Corey joined Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2017 bringing with him 8 years of experience in the funeral industry. He proudly served his country in the United States Naval Submarine Force from 1987 to 1997. Corey lives in Warrenton, MO with his wife Amy and two sons, Eli and Jackson. He spends most of his time with his family, whether it's racing BMX bikes with Jackson or enjoying shooting sports and fishing with Eli. He also enjoys playing drums and spending time with his bulldogs. Corey is a funeral director at the Hutchens-Stygar Funeral & Cremation Center in St. Charles and feels honored to serve the families during their times of loss.
Pat is retired from NGA after 40 years of service and Dillard’s Department Stores after 38 years of service. She has a B.S. in Business Administration from UMSL, enjoys traveling, bowling, golf, crafts (knitting, crocheting, and counted cross-stitch), going to Cardinal baseball games, the Muny, the Fox, and volunteering at her church. Pat has been with Hutchens Funeral Homes since 2006.
Rev. Wisdom began with Hutchens Funeral Homes in 2001 as a funeral director. After retirement from full-time work, he remained with Hutchens as a part-time funeral director and funeral Celebrant. Rev. Wisdom is honored to help families in both capacities and uses his lengthy experience to help them celebrate and honor the life of their loved one. He resides in Glen Carbon, IL with his wife and enjoys spending time with his family and colleagues.
