Obituary

Swofford, Loretta Louise, Sunday, July 1, 2018. Beloved wife of Harold Swofford, Jr.; dear mother and mother-in-law of Bryan (Leeann) Gawedzinski and Kathleen (Michael) Cardenas-Salas; dear grandmother of Hailey and Jacob Gawedzinski; dear sister and sister-in-law of Victoria (Ted) Fox, Michael (Donna) Klekar and Steven (Susee) Klekar; dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.

Loretta Swofford has always been an amazing woman who has cared for and loved everyone deeply. Her selflessness has been portrayed her whole life. This started when she helped her parents raise her siblings and continued through her over 30 years of being a cardiac nurse at Christian Hospital Northeast. She married Harold Swofford and was a devoted wife for 39 years. She was a caring mother for 44 years to two beautiful children and for 7 years to two beautiful grandchildren and grand-pets. She was an alumnus of Our Lady of Good Counsel and graduated from Riverview Gardens High School. She then went to continue her education at Jewish Hospital School of Nursing where she received a degree in nursing. She won the Betty Crocker homemaking award, was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Nurses of America. She was devoted to helping animals and her pets. It broke her heart to see them injured or homeless. She taught her children to show the same love and compassion for animals as well. Donations in her memory may be given to the ASPCA or the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.

Laughter- Loretta was always smiling despite her health issues . She seemed to always enjoy life. We enjoyed spend time having breakfast with her Harold and mike and Katie at Gittemeier’s. We will miss that.
